Cultivating Sustainable Environments

Good Neighbors Sri Lanka (GNSL) is dedicated to empowering farming communities to navigate climate challenges through education and skill-building in sustainable agricultural practices. Our initiatives focus on renovating small water tanks to enhance irrigation systems, training farmers in climate-resilient techniques such as drought-tolerant crops and composting, and fostering stewardship of local ecosystems

Good Neighbors Sri Lanka (GNSL) has empowered farming communities to adapt to climate challenges through awareness and skills training in sustainable agriculture practices. Key initiatives included renovating small water tanks to support irrigation, training farmers in climate-resilient techniques like drought-tolerant crops and composting and enhancing ecosystem stewardship. GNSL also engaged youth in environmental conservation through hands-on camps that focused on biodiversity and wildlife protection, and these young participants later contributed to lake clean-up efforts to reduce pollution in local water sources.
“Before GNSL renovated the Dangaswewa tank, our farming community faced significant challenges with insufficient water capacity and leaks from the sluice gate. Thanks to their support, these issues have been resolved, and now our tank is filled to capacity after a rich rainfall this year. This has allowed us to cultivate more paddy fields than ever before, benefiting not just the 30 direct farming families, but a total of 260 families in our village. We are truly grateful for the positive impact GNSL has had on our community and the support given to improve our livelihoods.”
